HALT accepts college and graduate school interns to work in our Washington, DC offices for the fall semester, the spring semester and the summer. We generally hire two to three interns during the fall and spring semesters and four interns for the summer. Full- and part-time internships are available.
Interns work on all aspects of the organization's projects, including writing and research, education, legislation and advocacy efforts. Working closely with our program staff, each intern is responsible for one major research project during the semester, contributes at least one article to HALT's quarterly newsletter and has the opportunity to participate in our educational and advocacy projects.
- Money! Stipend of $300/week for 10-12 weeks during fall, spring and spring semesters and/or academic credit!
- Minimal grunt work! HALT interns are engaged almost exclusively in substantive work. You won't make copies for anyone but yourself.
- Food! Catered lunch once a week.
- Great location! In the heart of downtown Washington, DC (near lots of fun lunch places, ice cream and frozen custard shops, bars and cafes).
- Short commute! One block from metro (Farragut North and Farragut West stations).
- Fun! Small, close-knit staff that is always available to answer interns' questions, provide feedback or just chat.
All applicants should submit a cover letter explaining their specific interest in HALT, a resume and brief (3-10 page) writing sample to:

HALT conducts in-person interviews for local finalists and telephone interviews for other finalists. Interns are selected from finalists who demonstrate an interest in HALT's mission and excellent writing and research skills. Applications are processed on a rolling basis for each semester.
HALT would like to thank George Miller and Paul Hasse for their generous support of the HALT internship program.
The HALT internship program is also made possible by grants from the Exxon Mobil Corporation and the Everett Public Service Internship Program.
