Washington, DC—Consumer advocate Sally Greenberg has joined the board of directors of HALT—An Organization of Americans for Legal Reform, a Washington, DC-based advocacy group that works to ensure consumers can handle their legal affairs simply, affordably and equitably.

"We are very proud and happy to welcome Sally Greenberg to our board," stated HALT Executive Director Jim Turner. "Sally brings a special expertise in defending consumer rights and a longstanding commitment to improving access and accountability in our legal system-a combination that will strengthen both our advocacy and education efforts. All of us look forward to working with her to protect and empower America's legal consumers."

Greenberg has been a product safety counsel at Consumers Union since 1997 and currently serves as Senior Product Safety Counsel. Working with members of Congress, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Consumer Product Safety Commission, she works to ensure that consumers receive the best possible information about the safety of their cars, appliances and other consumer products, and works to see that dangerous products are removed from the market. Greenberg advocates for preserving consumers' access to the courts in the event they are injured by medical malpractice, a hazardous product, or simply have a dispute with a company and want access to the courts to seek resolution.

"I'm very pleased to be joining the HALT board," state Greenberg. "I fully expect that my work as a consumer advocate and ongoing interest in a fair and equitable legal system will blend nicely with HALT's historic work in fighting for consumers' fair treatment in the courts, from the lawyers they work with, and overall access to the legal system."

Sally has long supported the right of consumers to be treated fairly throughout the legal system, including by their own lawyers, and supports broader access to legal services regardless of socioeconomic status.

Founded in 1978, HALT—An Organization of Americans for Legal Reform is a nonpartisan, nonprofit public interest organization. HALT pursues an ambitious education and advocacy program that challenges the legal establishment to improve access and accountability and reduce costs in the civil justice system.
