Washington, DC -- HALT-An Organization of Americans for Legal Reform is making available to public access cable stations throughout the country, a videotape describing the organization, and how it can help your viewers.
Appearing as part of a series entitled "Non-Profits: Front and Center", HALT staff members discuss the resources available for no or low-cost to individuals. In addition, an individual who was directly aided by HALT appears to tell her story.
Founded in 1978, HALT, An Organization of Americans for Legal Reform, pursues a bold education and advocacy program that challenges the legal establishment to improve access and to reduce costs in the civil justice system. HALT is known for its extensive collection of self-help law books and its advocacy to hold the legal profession accountable.
Through it's Legal Information Clearinghouse and Referral Network, HALT responds to thousands of requests for legal information from consumers nationwide through mail, facsimile, and electronic mail. HALT provides legal information on more than 50 topics in the Everyday Law Series, a series of fact sheets available on HALT's web site, www.halt.org, for downloading or printing. Finally, HALT refers consumers to attorneys, organizations, and other resources in their area.
Recorded in Washington, DC in the summer of 2000, the VHS tape is available for broadcasting immediately upon request. Total running time is 29:18. If you are interested in broadcasting the tape, or viewing it, please contact HALT Outreach Director, Goldie H. Gider at our toll-free number.
